Hey there!
I’m coming to you live tonight after one of the best conversations I have had in a while.
So I just had to share.
A close friend of mine is thinking about starting a new venture and one of the questions he asked me was:
“Hey Oscar, how can I build an audience on Facebook with little to no money?”
My mind started running with idea after idea and I figured I’d put this email together to share what I told him to hopefully help you out if you’re trying to do the same.
To grow your audience on Facebook, you need to understand that there is, in reality, two different Facebooks.
- A personal one
- A business one
And when it comes to your business, you need both…
Many times, you might set up a personal Facebook account to connect with friends and family members, share content that is important to you or share funny cat videos. You might also use this same account to participate in different groups, events, games, etc.
Normally this account is private or has limited visibility to the public.
On the other hand, If you have a business, you set up a business page account to promote your business and invite others to “Like” and engage in your content. Normally, you think of this page as a “business only” venture.
That is where the problem is…
Even though there are two Facebooks…they should both be used for the same reasons.
You see, a business page is only good to have if you plan on advertising. Otherwise, any content you post is not going to get the reach you “want” to have.
They are good for listing basic business information that you can list out on your website, Yelp, or Google, but outside of that, if you are not planning on advertising…there is little you can do.
Why?
Because it is based on the algorithm used by Facebook on top of the fact that organic reach is drastically declining in general.
If you want your content to be seen, you’re going to have to pay (on Facebook anyway)
But don’t worry, you don’t need to spend thousands of dollars or even hundreds. In fact, you can do a lot with just $5/day for as long as you wish.
My recommendation: Do one Facebook live video a week on your business page. That’s it. I know that content can be such a struggle when it comes to growing your business so I don’t want to burden you too much.
One 5 minute Facebook Live video a week is all you need.
Then, what you do it promote it to interests within you market for $5 bucks/day.
That will introduce people to your message. In addition, make that Facebook Live video highly educational. Teach them something or show them something cool. This increase it’s ability to be shared giving you even more exposure.
And that’s just your business page. To really grow, you need to also leverage your personal account.
Yes, your personal account.
If you have issues against then this all you have to do is create another account, if not, then be about it. Embody your business and take ownership of it.
What that means is that in addition to sharing pictures of friends and family as well as that funny cat video, you are also going to be sharing content related to your business and to your market.
Will some people find it annoying? Yes…but you don’t need those people around. Surround yourself with supportive people and over time those nonsupporters will weed themselves out.
Just like any other social media, you have to post frequently. My recommendation is to post about 4 times a day.
Don’t make it more complicated then it needs to be. Copy the following:
- Personal/motivational story
- A funny Meme
- An Image that resonates
- An instructional video
Each one of these posts is going to be filled with value, display a bit of your personality, and help your market in some way.
The point is, that you are going to start using your personal Facebook account to connect on a human level, with people around you while also letting them know what you are about.
On top of that, you should also be using your personal account to participate in specific groups found within your market.
Dedicated at least 30 minutes a few times a day to interact within these groups and remember to always add value.
Doing this is going to allow you to become an authority within that group. So when someone decides to click on your profile pic to see what you are about, they are taken to your personal Facebook page where they see that you are about your business but you also have a human side to you as well.
This makes it really easy for people to connect.
Then, in your about section, connect your personal account to your business page.
You can do this by saying “Head Honcho At XYZ” or something else that is clever.
As you interact with people on your personal account, your business account also benefits.
It’s all about posting high-quality value messages and becoming “KNOWN” for something.
We have to leverage the tools that are provided to us.
With Facebook, you have a great way of promoting your business through advertisements with their business pages, but we also have an amazing way to connect on a 1:1 level with our market using our personal account.
It’s not going to happen overnight, but if you post consistently and deliver value, while also connecting on a human level, you are going to see that
- the number friends you have increases,
- the number of followers you have increase,
- the amount of exposure you get increases,
- the amount of credibility you have increase,
- and how much your business increases.
So go post one Facebook Live video a week on your business page, share at least four high-quality posts a day on your personal account, and spend at least 30 minutes a few times a day interacting with groups in your market.
Alright, that’s it, keep on keeping on!
-Oscar
